This footage was recorded on Thursday, September 25, 2008, while visiting family and friends in Dover, TN.
In this video, we visit Fort Donelson National Battlefield located within the city limits of Dover, Tennessee.
We'll start at the Park entrance with a view of the roadside signage and continuing with an exterior shot of the Visitor Center which also houses exhibits of Civil War artifacts. We also get a look at the Confederate Monument, erected in honor of the Confederate soldiers who lost their lives in the Battle of Fort Donelson. You'll get a view of Tour Stop 4 which is an accurate reconstruction of the lower river artillery battery which overlooks the Cumberland River.

Fort Donelson is ...
Fort Donelson is one of my favorite battlefields in Tennessee.? It's small, and I wish it had Union siege positions, instead of Confederate works only. Note in the opening that the park started out as a National Military Park, but was later changed to National Battlefield. Thanks for posting. I'm writing this on the 149th anniversary of the beginning of the battle and siege of Fort Donelson.

When I was a kid, ...
When I was a kid, they did not have this re-creation set up as it is shown in this video. There were numerouns cannon barrels there resting on the ground and not on the wheeled carriages as seen in this video. Aldo, back in the day, there was a recorded message in an enclosed box. It? would play automatically after pressing the Start button and the narrator would describe the historical facts behind the battle of Fort Donelson that took place from this battery.

Fort Donelson is like 10 minutes from my house. I've been there dozens of times, been going ever since I was a kid.Great place to just kick back and have a good meal.I remember? a few years ago when they didn't have the decks and everything built,so there was nothing to block your view in any direction and you were allowed to go pretty much anywhere, I don't think you can go down there with the cannons anymore,doesn't stop anyone there though.Great place take a jeep in the summer. Nice vid!

My great- ...
My great-grandfather fought at Fort Donelson, Shiloh and Vicksburg with Illinois' 8th Infantry. Several weeks ago and for the first time I? visited Fort Donelson and Shiloh. It was personally very moving. If he'd died, and how he survived I do not know, I would not be here. The bravery of the fighting men, North and South was just incredible. I admire them very much and am proud of my great-grandfather.
